Who is Your Content For?

Audience avatars are a proven market research technique for helping to define the audience for a program, product, or service.

The purpose is to help define the nature of your target audience, including their demographic characteristics, likes, hopes, challenges, dislikes, needs, and more. The more specific you can get, the better.

I Don't Have This Data

You may have access to more information than you think. You can start with your YouTube metrics and follower data from other platforms (as long as these are related to your YT platform).

A lot of other information can be gleaned by analyzing your competitors and their content on Youtube and other platforms.

You can also infer some of the information where the data is not yet available via deductive reasoning.

Finally, you can add to this by asking members of your audience (via polls, DMs, and/or short interviews).

And you don't have to do this all at once. In fact, you should refine your data on an ongoing basis as you collect more information and as your audience evolves over time. This is just a tool intended to help you get started.

Will This Really Help Me?

Once you get clear on who your content is for, what they're looking for, and why they subscribe or purchase, you will be in a much better position to create content that resonates with a specific audience.

This is what turns people from casual viewers to subscribers. And it will help you devise offers that convert subscribers into customers.

It will also make it so much easier for you as the creator to create content because you'll be able to focus on a narrower range of topics (thereby deepening your expertise) and do so with a better sense of what makes people "click" for those topics and "subscribe" to these types of channels.
